What Are Hoka Shoes + Why Is Everyone So Obsessed?

The Hoka One One brand, mostly known as Hoka, was created in the year 2009 and has climbed the popularity ladder each year since. A Hoka shoe can often be spotted from a mile away due to their iconic chunky sole and vibrant color patterns. The shoes were originally created to provide lasting comfort for runners and have since branched off into other directions such as sandals, spikes, apparel, and even shoes for hiking trips. Nearly all of their shoes sport a thick midsole and this aspect is part of the reason as to why they are so popular. Even though the plush sole cushions your every step, Hokas are still lightweight and easy to wear.

🌈 Hokas come in dynamic colors, which make lacing up for your workout more fun, but they are extra visible for anyone heading out onto roads or trails where high-visibility attire is necessary.

🔹 Hokas have a unique geometry that's changing the game. Aka, the shape of the shoe makes all the difference. Their Meta-Rocker geometry and the Active Foot Frame are but two of the technologies incorporated into Hoka shoes that elevate the wearer's performance and comfortability.

🏋️ Hokas work for pretty much any workout, including hiking, running, walking, training, and a bunch of other activities. That's why they're so popular among street style enthusiasts, casual athletes, and even famous athletes and runners in the athletic community.

Our first dupe is a little bit cheaper than Hokas but if we're being honest every penny counts and these shoes are worth it! Boasting a thick sole and beautiful color scheme, these running shoes look very similar to the Hoka Bondi 8 that starts at $131 and goes up to $165. “Honestly I just want to go on by saying I’ve always struggled with shin splints and knee pain for about 5 years on/off and I’ve gone through a dozen of running shoes. I’m an average runner but having those shoes completely took away my shin splints and knee pain. They’re not heavy at all and super comfortable. They’re accurate in size and the color is subtle and not too much. I’m so grateful I found these , made me realize how much better I can run without restricting myself. They are definitely worth the price.” -- Review

If you're still looking for a high-end sneaker but don't quite want to shell out $130+ for the running technology, these shoes from Vans make a great option. The Upland Shoe comes in at under $100, and while it isn't designed for running the way Hokas are, it fits the bill if you like the chunky midsole look. Not to mention, Hoka has been pulling in some vintage color palettes lately, with lots of muted colors and beige details. And we think the colors on these Vans would have worked in the 1970s or 1990s just as well as they work today.
