uality time—it’s not just one of the five main love languages, it’s also a necessity in any solid relationship. Lucky for you, summertime—more often than not—means more time. With school on a hiatus and beautiful days of sunshine that make for a perfect excuse to take off from work early, during the months of June, July, and August, you’ll likely find yourself with more time to spend with your girlfriend.
But having some time doesn’t always equate to having a good time. Summertime, as wonderful and relaxing as it is, can slip away in a blink of an eye if you’re not ready to make the most out of it. Yes, we know...brainstorming, planning, organizing...three things you probably don’t want to do this summer. Don’t worry, Adultist is here to help you out. We’re going to give you some tips on how you can have an amazing summer with your amazing girlfriend.
Here’s a breakdown of what we will be talking about:
- How you can make a summer plan (that she will definitely love you for)
- Our list of summer activities you can do with your girlfriend
Make a summer plan (that she will definitely love you for)
School is out, you’ve taken off from work, and now it’s time to catch up on the things you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t because of your hectic schedule.
Making a list of the different places you want to go to and the things you want to do with your girlfriend will not only allow you to catch up on the things you’ve missed out on, it will also give you an idea for something to do when you see each other. Here are a few ideas of some lists you and your girlfriend can create together:
🍽️ Restaurants to eat at
🍿 Movies to watch
📺 TV shows to binge
🗺️ Places to explore
👣Trails to hike
🫂 People you want to hangout with
🍦 Ice cream places to check out
Not a fan of planning? Think of it more as a summer bucket list that you and your girlfriend are trying to conquer before the summer is over.
Our list of summer activities you can do with your girlfriend
Don’t worry, you don’t have to make a list for everything. If you’re having difficulty coming up with your own ideas, feel free to steal one of ours. We’ve compiled a list of things you can do with your girlfriend based on how you two might be feeling on a summer day.
Outdoorsy & adventurous
Go for a drive
There’s something about driving around aimlessly with no destination in sight that captures the free-spirited essence of summer. Let the open road take you and your girlfriend wherever you feel most intrigued to go in the moment. Driving around town may seem boring, but when you roll the windows down and turn on some of your favorite tunes, it can actually be a lot of fun. Plus, if you’re able to catch the sun setting, it can even turn out to be quite romantic.
Find a new hiking trail
If your girlfriend enjoys spending time outdoors, there’s a good chance she’s done a fair amount of hiking. Change things up by finding a new hiking trail to explore over the summer—it will give you two the opportunity to do some exploring together.
Visit some state or national parks
When you get tired of hiking, consider checking out a few state or national parks. Depending upon where you live and how far you’re willing to travel, this may not always seem feasible, but if you’re able to make the trip, it will definitely be worth it. There’s so much to explore in your state, let alone your country, but crossing a few of these parks off the list with your girlfriend is a pretty good start.
Casual & relaxing
Spend a night in watching a movie
Not all date nights have to be elaborate and fancy. Streaming services allow you to access any movie you can possibly think of from the TV in your living room, making it very easy and convenient to plan a movie night with your girlfriend. But just because it’s easy doesn’t mean you should be complacent. Treating your movie night in as if it’s a date out to a real movie theater can make the evening that much more enjoyable. Eat some of your favorite snacks and drinks while watching the movie and...dare we say...silence your cell phones!
Book a beach day or pool afternoon
You can’t go a whole summer without going to the beach. Unless, that is, you don’t live anywhere close to the beach. If this is the case, don’t sweat it—there’s always pools. And when there are no pools in sight, there are always lawn sprinklers (although we’ll admit that this is a last resort option). Either way—pools, beaches, lawn sprinklers—they’re all summer staples, so make sure you utilize at least one before Labor Day comes around.
Social & delicious
Have a BBQ cookout with friends
If you love to cook and host dinner parties, a BBQ cookout is a perfect way to spend a beautiful summer night with your girlfriend. The two of you can invite some mutual friends over to hang out, or you can each invite a few of your own friends—it can be a great way to introduce your friends to each other if they haven’t already met.
Spend a day in the kitchen
Cooking or baking with your girlfriend is a great way to spend some quality time together, especially if these are activities she enjoys doing. You don’t have to be a master chef to enjoy time together in the kitchen. Ultimately, it’s what you make out of it, and hopefully the final product will be something edible and delicious to eat too.
Go to a few farmer’s markets
Farmer’s markets won’t be around all year long, so make sure to take advantage of them while you still can. Gorgeous summer weather makes visiting your local farmers markets and supporting the farm to table movement easier than ever. Not only do farmers markets allow you to give back to local farmers by directly supporting their products, going to them with your girlfriend can make for a very peaceful Saturday morning date.
Fun & different
Compete in your very own mini golf tournament
We know what you’re thinking—”Really? Mini golf?” While going mini golfing may seem more like a middle school date than an adult date, hear us out: turning a few rounds of mini golf into a fun little competition can be very cute, in addition to creating a nice change of pace from all of the serious adult things you have to do when it’s not summertime.
Indulge in a shopping spree
A new season means you need a new look. If you and your girlfriend enjoy shopping, spending some time in a mall or a few outlet stores can make for both an indulgent as well as productive day. Don’t take yourselves too seriously though—have some fun with it by trying on things you aren’t looking for but are dying to try on.
Reminisce by looking through old yearbooks and photographs
How much do you know about your girlfriend’s past? How much does she know about yours? Taking a trip down memory lane by looking through old photographs and yearbooks can help you acquaint each other with the older versions of yourselves. Not to mention, it can make for some pretty great laughs.
Planned right, and the summer can be a relaxing and fun opportunity to spend some quality time with your girlfriend. We’ve given you a few ideas of some things to do and places to go, but now it’s your turn. Go forth into the sunshine and make the most of it!
